NATIK AS FISCAL SPONSOR: ANADESA
A New Dawn
We’re pleased to share the Natik has become a fiscal sponsor for ANADESA—Asociación Nuevo Amanecer Santiago Atitlán (Association of the New Dawn Santiago Atitlán).
ANADESA is a grassroots organization that offers education programs for children and adults, as well as a work program for women that creates jewelry, shampoo, and food prep for international visitors. All ANADESA’S programs center on improving education and creating economic opportunity. Their goal is to build capacity; to educate the people of Santiago Atitlán so they will be able to support themselves and live healthy, happy, enriching and fulfilling lives.
The Adult Education Program was created to educate adults and youth in grades equivalent to elementary school and middle school.
The Children’s Education Program gives after school help with reading, writing, and mathematics, and includes activities in art, recreation, non-violence, hygiene, environment, and music as alternative to the temptations of drug addiction and violence.
ANADESA knows the only way to break the cycle of poverty in Guatemala is through education.
During monthly meetings, participants also talk about family violence, HIV/AIDS, food security, health, and hygiene.
ANADESA maintains a tree nursery and large garden. Trees are planted to reduce the vulnerability of the communities to mud slides as well as care for the environment. ANADESA also encourages and mentors families to cultivate their own vegetable gardens.
